Vianden.
On both sides of the river ‘Our’ one can find the picturesque city of Vianden. It already existed in Roman times, when there was a castellum. After the construction of a castle in the 11th century, the city received its city rights. These days the castle is one of Luxembourg’s main tourist attractions. From the city tself it’s only a short walk to the border with Germany.

The Castle.
Beaston Castle was built in 1220 by the Earl of Chester. In 1237 it became a Royal Castle and it stayed that until the 16th century.
After the Civil War in 1646 Cromwell had the castle demolished to prevent it from possible future use as a stronghold.
