Normandy, Pointe du Hoc taken by the Rangers – France

with No Comments

Pointe du Hoc.

On 6th of June in the early morning the US Rangers climbed the walls of the cliff to start fighting. After they had fought themselves into the gun emplacements, the guns they had to take out were gone. In the movie D-Day it stops here.

The guns were removed, because the English Lancasters bombarded the area the night before. Most of the huge impact craters were created by this bombardment. The Rangers found the guns a few hundred meters further and destroyed them.

The Germans did launch massive counter attacks, but the Rangers defended the area until the US tanks reached them.

Check out our album about the Notre Dame.

Completed in 1345 and best known for the Disney cartoon The Hunchback of Notre Dame. Climb the tower, admire the gargoyes and have a great view over Paris.

We also have a blog. On it you will find a story about 5 smaller cities in the UK.

When people from outside the UK visit England most people go to London. Of course this is a great city to visit. There is a lot to see and do and when it’s your first time in this fascinating country I can definitely recommend it. You can easily spend a week in “the Big Smoke” and still only see a few things. Museums, theaters, parks, nightlife. There is plenty to do for everyone. I wrote about it in a previous story on our blog.
