Normandy, Mont Saint-Michel – France

with No Comments

Mont Saint-Michel.

According to a legend Archangel Michael gave instruction to build a a church on this island, which is now named after him.

Five centuries later, during the 100 Years’ War between England and France, the town of Mont Saint-Michel was threatened. It was the most important town of Normandy, which at that time was a wealthy part of France. It was also the only place in Normandy the English hadn’t captured yet. During this invasion of France the English besieged Mont Saint-Michel several times.

However, the French assigned Betrand du Guesclin, hero of France in making, to defend Mont Saint-Michel, which he did succesfully. The English did not manage to captured it. Nowadays you can visit the temporary house of Betrand du Guesclin.

Check out our album about Kampen, the Netherlands.

The small city of Kampen was once an influential Hanseatic city with a huge fleet. It traded with northern Europe, had a University and there were no taxes.

We also have a blog. On it you will find a story about 5 smaller cities in the UK.

When people from outside the UK visit England most people go to London. Of course this is a great city to visit. There is a lot to see and do and when it’s your first time in this fascinating country I can definitely recommend it. You can easily spend a week in “the Big Smoke” and still only see a few things. Museums, theaters, parks, nightlife. There is plenty to do for everyone. I wrote about it in a previous story on our blog.
