Mont Saint-Michel.
On top of the hill of the Mont Saint-Michel stands a beautiful abbey church called ‘La Merveille’ (the miracle). This 13th century church is part of the abbey on this famous island.
During the medieval centuries the originally small monastery grew out into a city, a fortress, churches and the just mentioned abby. Over the years the French started using the abbey as a prison until this became its sole function. However, in 1863 Napoleon III closed this prison.
The recognition of the abbey’s historical value was a fact and soon renovation works started taking place. The monks came back to the abbey and in 1979 it became an UNESCO World Heritage site. Nowadays if you visit the Mont Saint-Michel, you see churches and statues everywhere you look.

We also have a blog. The story about ‘Little monks in disguise‘ is set in Ireland and very funny.
A story about puffins. I visited these birds on Skellig Michael, an Irish island, which once was home to monks. Only a few amount of tourists can go there.
