Matrei am Brenner, a small village in Tirol – Austria

with No Comments

Matrei am Brenner.

Several years ago we drove from the Netherlands to Italy and stopped for the night in a small town called Matrei am Brenner. In the past a lot of traffic went through this town. However, this changed because of the opening of the Brenner Railway in 1867. Matrei am Brenner is now a quiet town with only a few tourists.

We explored this small town and took some photos. People lived in this area as early as the Bronze Age. The town has beautifully decorated houses and a few churches. During World War II Matrei am Brenner was heavily bombed, but luckily the inhabitants managed to rebuild it. It now looks the way it used to be. Have a look at our photos and let us know if you like this town.

We also have a beautiful photo album about Verona.

The UNESCO city of Verona, situated in Italy near Venice and Padua, is best known for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. These photos show more than a balcony.
