Castle and city walls.
Near Venice there are a lot of well-known cities. Este is not one of them. Este is a small city. A big part of its old city walls and castle are still intact. In the Iron Age it was a center for the Veneti. In the 3rd century BC it became a Roman colony called Ateste. During the downfall of the Empire it was devestated under the invasions of babarian tribes among which Atilla. In the Middle Ages Este was the capital of the house of Este until 1240. After this it was hold by mutiple parties until it surrendered to Venice. After that Este went through a period of economic growth. I hope you like the photos.Also on Travelharts.com.
