Burg Arras, near the river Moselle – Germany

Burg Arras.

Around 350 AD the local rulers wanted to protect themself against the Franks. They built a devensive position on a hill. Around 950 AD they  added a tower. The French captured the castle during the 9-year-war. During this occupation a part of the castle was destroyed by an explosion.

Most likely the church of Trier built Burg Ehrenburg. In 1688 the French took the castle and a year later they partly blew it up. Today you can visit it.

Near Rheden is a visitors center of Natuurmonumenten, a great start for a hike in the Veluwezoom. The sheep pen and climbing trail are great for kids.
