Andernach, Kita Maria Himmelfahrt Church – Germany

Kita Maria Himmelfahrt

In the old center of the small town of Andernach is a old church. People do not know when the first version of this church was built. However, under the church are Carolingian graves. This means that it has been built between 800 AD and 1000 AD. The construction of the present church started in 1220 and finished in 1250. Of course it has been renovated later on. In 2006, whilst renovating the nearby parish house, they discovered ancient roman bathhouse from the 4th century AD. The excavations are now partly visible for tourists through a glass dome.
